VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Netizen hosts BOGUS Samsung ‘S12’ giveaway

A netizen published in the first week of December an online post giving away “10,000” units of the S12 Plus phone by electronics giant Samsung. This is fake.

No such model has been released, or even announced, by Samsung.

In a phone interview about its latest releases, a customer care representative of Samsung Philippines told VERA Files Fact Check:

“For the S-series, the last release is the S10 Plus. But the new phone which we just released is the Galaxy Fold.”

The fake raffle was published on Dec. 2 by a netizen on FB group Mega Valenzuela Job Hiring. Congratulating the “winners” of a supposed previous giveaway, the netizen invited others to choose the color of the S12 unit that they wanted and “within five minutes,” she would message them how to claim their prize.

The netizen’s fake post has generated 82 comments and over 30 reactions on the page.

The same bogus giveaway, bearing the same mechanics, have also been posted in other FB groups and by FB pages such as Ednikambiofuel and green gas and Sam sunng Pr0mo – Issa ismail, but have since been deleted. Other versions of the fake post claim that the unit being given away is an “S11” or an “S12 Flex.”

The fake post made the rounds on the web a few days before the release of the Samsung Note 10 Plus Star Wars special edition set to debut on Dec. 13.
