Here are scenes from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) Command Center at Pope Pius XII Catholic Center, Manila on May 14.

The PPCRV welcomes its volunteers with an opening mass to bless its validation of election returns.

Priest Tony Labiao Jr. during his sermon told volunteers, “We are here to protect or secure our votes. That’s what Jesus is telling us today: ‘Live in my love.’ Our involvement in this election is one way to live in that love.”

The first batch of PPCRV volunteers hold hands to sing “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Volunteers are expected to check the electronically transmitted election returns (ER) reflected in the Commission on Elections’ transparency server against the pre-transmission ERs generated at the clustered precinct level.

Youth volunteers dominate the first shift of validation. Since 2019 is the year of the youth, PPCRV media director Agnes Gervacio said they really wanted to encourage the youth to participate. Volunteers in the command center work in shifts, 24/7.

In the 2016 elections, the PPCRV finished the validation of election returns in 10 days. “But we’re ready to do this for…as long as it takes. At least two to three weeks,” Gervacio said.

As of this morning, the PPCRV has received election returns from precincts in the National Capital Region. Gervacio said ERs from outside NCR are expected to arrive this afternoon.

PPCRV begins validation of election returns

Citizen election watchdog Parish for Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) officially launched its validation of election returns May 14.

Validation is done to ensure that the electronically transmitted returns are the same as the printed copies prior to transmission, PPCRV information technology director Rommel Bernardo said.
